As an affiliate of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Palatine, the Faith Forward Foundation is a dynamic, independent, non-profit corporation that operates within the meaning of Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, to exclusively fulfill monetary grant requests for educational and charitable purposes consistent with its specific operating guidelines.  As such, the Foundation will receive funds from other charitable foundations, corporate contributions, and individual lifetime donations and bequests to be used to execute God’s missions and the ministries of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Palatine, Illinois.  The Foundation Board of Directors holds annual elections of directors and meets regularly to manage its assets and make essential operating decisions.

A grantee’s request for funding should adhere to these categories:

  • Tuition assistance for students attending Lutheran elementary schools, colleges, and seminaries.  Grants for students training for a professional church work vocation. 

    Funds for special programs of education for the congregation:

    • Speakers, seminars, convocations that facilitate growth in Christian life, awareness, and stewardship. 

    Funds for Staff Training: 

    • Seminars and potential sabbatical leave to enrich the staff and to benefit the congregation.

  • Building expenditures and/or projects that are extraordinary in nature and non-recurring.

  • Funds to reach out with the Gospel through ministries of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, ministries associated with the Northern Illinois District, and ministries and projects of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Palatine, Illinois.

  • Funds to assist Prince of Peace and families of Prince of Peace during times of great need in the areas of property or physical well-being and financial.

  • Funds to assist in the purchase of a home when a full-time staff person is called. These Funds would be reimbursed if the staff member moves on.

    Criteria and conditions for the above uses may be modified by the Foundation Board of Directors from time to time as appropriate.

  • At its creation the Foundation was intended to support Prince of Peace’s God’s missions as illustrated above.  Furthermore, the Foundation is designed to be a dynamic and evolving instrument that regularly accepts assets and disburses funding.

    Within the membership of the Prince of Peace congregation and from certain outside entities there will be from time-to-time wishes expressed to commit assets and/or resources to specific undertakings that will enhance the Foundation activities.  It is the Foundation’s intent to encourage Prince of Peace congregation’s active initiative to provide and engage with God’s new missions.

    These commitments may be in the form of intentions to provide bequests from a will, actual drafting of bequests in active will provisions, or written pledges to transfer assets in the future or current defined projects.

    To support and encourage such actions, the Foundation Board members will meet periodically with members of the Prince of Peace congregation and any outside entities that approach the Foundation or the Senior Pastor expressing these intents.  The voluntary group will be known as the Legacy Group.  Supporting the expressed intent of the Legacy Group may include:

    • Meetings individually to discuss specific interests and outcomes that the Legacy Group member wishes to support.

    • Meetings to discuss opportunities for Legacy Group participants that enhance and extend POP’s mission to serve God that are beyond the current operating budget resources.

    • At least once a year, Legacy Group participants and the Foundation Directors will meet over a dinner and discuss Legacy Group funded projects and visions for new opportunities.

    • Participation in a Legacy Group will be confidential and not disclosed to the congregation members at large.

    • Legacy Group meetings will be by invitation only with Directors of the Faith Forward Foundation.
