Making Connections at POP Events

On a cold February evening, the library was swathed with round tables with candles and plum-colored tablecloths. Friends shared appetizers and the Hospitality Team served delicious mocktails like Michaelangelo Mules, Monet Mists, and Da Vinci Margaritas (with a Twist of Madness.) The ambiance complimented the jazzy tunes of local singer-songwriter Lisa Medina. Kendra Fay’s vocal harmonies added flair to some of Lisa’s originals and classic folk songs.

Among others, Lisa sang original songs from her 2024 album Wishes, including one about finding a baby Jesus figure in the dryer after her son left it in the pocket of his pants.

“As a songwriter, I translate experiences into songs. Although not everyone can relate to my personal experiences, music is a universal language. My goal as an artist is to connect with people this way. POP was a warm and wonderful listening crowd.”

Café Peace is not a new concept to our church as it was hosted at POP several years ago. Kathy Vanderwall recalls planning and hosting Café Peace with the Fellowship Team and performing with Christian musical group Devotion. Kathy and her husband, Dan, genuinely connected with a member of the community who follows Lisa at this Café Peace event.

“I always thought it was a great way to introduce people to our church in an informal atmosphere. A great way for outreach and an uplifting experience! That night, I had been feeling weary from the week. I left with a little more spring in my step.”
